Stacked area

Stacked area charts can be rendered by stacking measures or small multiple dimensions.

Chart setup for a stacked measure chart

1. Axis

- Drag a dimension to plot on the axis (e.g., Month).

  1. Values parameter

- Drag measures to analyze (e.g., 2024 Plan, 2024 Actuals, 2023 Plan, 2023 Actuals, 2022 Actuals).

  1. Chart type

- Select Stacked area from the Area section of the Chart Type dropdown menu.

Compare the total values of multiple data series at each point in time. Explicit measure configuration is not required.

  1. Axis

- Drag a dimension to plot on the axis (e.g., Month).

  1. Values parameter

- Drag measures to analyze (e.g., 2024 Actuals).

  1. Small multiples parameter

- Drag the dimension to create stacked categories (e.g., Sub Region).

  1. Chart type

- Select Stacked area from the Area section of the Chart Type dropdown menu.

Show how different components (in this case, sub-regions) contribute to the overall trend over time. Map the Sub Region dimension to the Legend data well.

Base area charts depict the variations of a particular measure with the high-performing portions in green and the low-performing portions in red.
