Scatter/Bubble Charts
Scatter and bubble charts are ideal for revealing patterns, relationships, and correlations between data points.
Chart setup to build a bubble chart:
Axis
Drag the dimension to plot on the axis (e.g.,Sub Category).
Values parameter
Drag multiple measures to compare (e.g., 2024 Actuals, 2024 Plan, 2023 Actuals).
Chart type
Select Bubble from the Chart Type dropdown menu.
Bubble charts are particularly useful for datasets with a large number of data points, where the size of the bubbles can provide additional information about the data. The 2024 Actuals and 2024 Plan provide the x and y positions for each product subcategory. The 2023 actuals determine the size of each bubble.
The x-axis and y-axis settings are identical for bubble charts.
1. Small multiples for bubble charts
Unlike other charts, adding a small multiple parameter to a bubble chart will not create a trellis. Analytics+ automatically maps small multiple parameters to the legend data well.
You can assign different markers to identify each small multiple category.
2. Analytics for bubble charts
2.1. Reference lines
For bubble charts, horizontal reference lines are plotted based on the y-axis measure, and vertical reference lines are plotted based on the x-axis measure.
2.2. Reference bands
Like reference lines, horizontal reference bands are plotted based on the y-axis measure, and vertical reference bands are plotted based on the x-axis measure.
2.3. Connector lines
Connector lines interconnect different bubbles and display how the bubbles have been sorted.
3. Customization & formatting options under Canvas settings
Distinguish the various categories in your bubble charts with fill patterns. Fill patterns help in increasing the clarity of charts with high data density. Analytics+ now supports solid, outlined, and hatched fill styles. Navigate to Canvas Settings and select the fill style from the dropdown menu.
4. Legend settings for Bubble charts
4.1. Bubble
Enable the Bubble toggle in the Legend tab to display a size-based legend. Size-based legends make it straightforward to associate the value with the size of the bubble.
Label
You can choose to display the legend as concentric circles or in a row.
No of size range
Based on your data, you can define the number of circles to display in the legend.
Transparency
For concentric circles, you can set the transparency factor.

Axis
Drag the dimension to plot on the axis (e.g.,Month).
Values parameter
Drag multiple measures to compare (e.g., 2024 Actuals, 2024 Plan).
Chart type
Select Scatter from the Bubble charts section of the Chart Type dropdown menu.
Scatter plots are used to identify the relationship between two variables, such as positive, negative, or no correlation. If you add a third measure to a scatter plot, the chart is automatically converted into a bubble chart, with the 3rd measure taken as the size.

Axis
Drag the dimension to plot on the axis (e.g., Month).
Values parameter
Drag multiple measures to compare (e.g., 2024 Actuals, 2024 Plan, AC vs PL%2024).
Chart type
Select Quadrant from the Bubble charts section of the Chart Type dropdown menu.
Quadrant bubble charts are an advanced type of bubble chart that combines the features of scatter plots and bubble charts with a quadrant overlay to provide deeper insights into data relationships. This visualization helps categorize data points into four distinct areas, each representing a different quadrant, to highlight relationships. The 2024 Actuals and 2024 Plan provide the x and y positions for each month. The AC vs PL%2024 measure determines the size of each bubble.
1. Axis settings for quadrant charts
1.1. Horizontal (Y-axis)
Enable or disable the Y-axis using the toggle. When the Y-axis is disabled, you will only have 2 quadrants corresponding to the X-axis.
Based on
Choose to render the Y-axis based on the Average/ Median/ Minimum/ Maximum/ Standard Deviation etc. You can also enter a custom value when you choose the Percentile or Constant options.
Line style
Set the style, thickness, and color of the Y-axis line.
1.2. Vertical (X-axis)
Enable or disable the X-axis using the toggle. When the X-axis is disabled, you will only have 2 quadrants (top and bottom) corresponding to the Y-axis.
Based on
Choose to render the X-axis based on the Average/ Median/ Minimum/ Maximum/ Standard Deviation etc. You can also enter a custom value when you choose the Percentile or Constant options.
Line style
Set the style, thickness, and color of the X-axis line.
1.3. Quadrants
You can set the background color for each quadrant. Additionally, you can customize the quadrant title, font, and vertical/horizontal orientations.
Fill
Set the background color of the quadrant.
Label
Enable or disable the title for each quadrant. Notice how the title has been disabled for the 3rd quadrant.
Text
Assign a custom title for each quadrant.
Font/Style
Set the font, size, style (Bold/Italic/Underline), and color for the quadrant title.
Horizontal and vertical positioning
Set the horizontal and vertical positions of the quadrant title.
