Annotations

Annotations are a great way to add context and capture perspective in your dashboards. Multiple users can collaborate to provide a full picture of the data being visualized.

1. Adding annotations

Select the element, then click the Annotate button > Create. You can create annotations at the canvas level or for specific data points, depending on where you place them. Use the rich text editor to format and highlight your annotations. You can also assign a color for each annotation indicator.

2. Hiding annotations

Select an element and click Hide All to hide all the annotations in a particular element. Notice how all the annotations in the pie chart are hidden. To make them visible again, click the Hide All option once more.

4. View all annotations

Select the All comments option to view all the annotations added to your dashboard.

5. Display all annotations

Click the Comments option from the Insert element dropdown menu to add an annotations pane in your storyboard. The Annotations pane captures all the element-level as well as dashboard-level comments in a single space.

You can add a comments pane from the settings for other elements like charts/cards/tables, etc. Click Annotate > All comments and click the Add Comments Pane link.

Customizing the Comments pane

  • Font style: Set the font family, style, and color.

  • Wrap text: Enable to display the entire content for long annotations.

  • Border: Set the border color and thickness. You can also choose to have a border on a particular side only.

  • Corner: Specify the corner radius for each comment. You can opt for uniformly rounded corners on all edges or specific corners only.

  • Fill: Set a background color to highlight your comments.

  • Shadow: Improve readability by adding shadow borders.

  • Icon: Set the color and size of the edit and delete icons.

5. Animated annotations

The animated annotations feature zooms in on each chart and showcases every comment in your storyboard, ensuring that important details are not overlooked.

Enable the Present toggle in the Comments pane configuration to animate your annotations in reading mode.

6. Adding dashboard-level annotations

Click the Add link in the comments pane to add dashboard-level comments that add context to the entire storyboard rather than a specific data point.
