b. Slider Scale & Fixed Interval

Slider Scale

The Slider Scale option enhances the date slider by adding a visual scale that aligns with the underlying data. This scale provides a reference guide, making it easier for users to select precise date ranges directly from the slider.

  • A scale is displayed along the slider track, reflecting the available date ranges in the dataset.

  • Users can drag the slider handles more precisely, as the scale provides clear reference points for the underlying year and month in the data.

Fixed Interval

The Fixed Interval feature allows users to move the entire selected date range forward or backward while maintaining a constant duration. This is especially useful for analyzing consecutive time periods (e.g., weeks, months, quarters) without having to manually reset the start and end dates each time.

How It Works

  • When Fixed Interval is enabled, the date range selected in the slider remains fixed in length (for example, 30 days).

  • Users can then drag the slider handles to shift the entire range forward or backward.

  • The start date and end date adjust automatically, but the overall duration (gap) remains the same.

Steps to Configure Fixed Interval

1

Add a Between Slider type in the visual.

2

Go to Format Pane → Date Filter → Slider and enable the Show Fixed Interval option.

3

In the visual, enable Fixed Interval toggle and specify the number of days (or duration) for the range.

4

Use the slider to drag the date range forward or backward.

Example:

  • If the fixed interval is set to 90 days (1 quarter), dragging the slider will move the date window by entire quarters (e.g., Jan–Mar → Apr–Jun → Jul–Sep), making it easy to perform period-over-period analysis.
