The Facet Filter's Calendar Mode offers Year view for selecting months and quarters within a year and Multi Year view for comparing the same periods across multiple years.

1. Year View

The Year in Calendar Mode allows users to select specific months, quarters, or unordered combinations of both, providing a convenient way to filter data by broader time ranges. This is ideal for analyzing seasonal performance, financial reports, or project milestones year-over-year.

How to use Year View:

When the Calendar view is set to “Year,” it displays the year header along with all months of that year arranged in a grid format.

To make selections in the displayed year view:

  • Click on a quarter to select all months within that quarter.

  • Click on individual months to select specific months.

  • You can also select multiple months or quarters together.

To navigate to earlier or later years, use the double arrows near the year header.

Additionally In the Calendar section under Date Filter of the Format pane, you can enable the Quarter option to display quarters in the Year view and enable Display Month as Number if you prefer months to be shown as numeric values.

All selected months and quarters appear at the footer of the calendar for easy reference.

Use the Clear option at the bottom to reset all selections.

2. Multi Year View:

The Multi Year option in Calendar mode simplifies year-over-year analysis by enabling the selection of the same quarter or month across multiple years. It functions similarly to the Date/Month option but allows for multi-year filtering, making it ideal for comparing data across different years.

How to use Multi Year View:

In the Visualizations pane, add a Date field to the Category field well. Ensure the field is set to Date (not Date Hierarchy).

Open the Format pane and navigate to Date Filter. Under Selection Style, choose Calendar.

Scroll down to the Calendar section. Set the Calendar View option to multi-year.

To make selections in the displayed Multi - year view:

  • Click on a quarter to select all months within that quarter for the default year displayed in the center.

  • Click on individual months to select specific months for the default year.

  • You can also select multiple years and then pick months or quarters within them, which is especially useful for year-over-year comparisons.

Example:

Let’s say you want to compare performance for Q1 across three years (2023, 2024, 2025).

  1. In the Multi-Year calendar, first click on Q1.

  2. Next, select the three years (2023, 2024, and 2025) from the year row at the top.

  3. The filter will now automatically apply Q1 for all three selected years.

This setup is particularly useful for year-over-year (YoY) analysis, as it allows you to quickly compare the same quarter or month across multiple years without selecting each period individually.
