The Tree map Filter allows users to visually filter data using a tree map layout. Users can interact with the tree map to make data selections, enabling a more intuitive and visually rich filtering experience.

Steps to Configure the Tree map Filter:

  1. Enable Tree map:

    • Add data to the category field in visualization pane.

    • Navigate to Hierarchy Filter and click on the Tree Map option to display a tree map in the visual.

  2. Filter Data:

    • Interact with the tree map by clicking on individual items or clicking and dragging to select multiple items.

    • The visual will dynamically filter data based on your selections.

Format Pane Options:

Navigate to the Format Pane, then go to Hierarchy, select Mode as Tree Map to access the following options.

1. Lasso Type:

  • This feature allows you to control how selections are managed within the tree map. Below are the options available in this.

    • Inclusive: Retains previous selections when new items are selected.

    • Exclusive: Clears earlier selections before applying new ones.

2. Enable Measure Label:

  • This option when enabled shows measure values directly on the tree map tiles.

3. Tiling Method:

  • The tiling method customizes the arrangement of rectangles within the tree map.

    • Squarified: Creates rectangles with proportions close to the golden ratio for better readability and comparison.

    • Slice: Alternates between vertical subdivisions for a simple, linear layout.

    • Dice: Alternates between horizontal subdivisions for a simple, linear layout.

    • Binary: Balances the layout by creating a binary tree structure, adjusting for wide or tall rectangles.

    • Alternating Rows and Columns: Alternates layout directions for better visual distinction between categories.

4. Space Between Nodes:

  • This option lets you adjust the spacing between nodes within the tree map.

  • Use the text box to define the spacing size. The visual updates dynamically based on your input.

5. Space Between Groups:

  • This option lets you adjust the spacing between groups within the tree map.

6. Sorting and Ranking:

7. No Data:

  • Allows users to control whether data appears only when a filter is applied in the Tree map. This is by default disabled.

8. Tree map Color URL:

Customizing Tree map Colors Using a URL

  • Allows users to apply custom colors to the Treemap using a Color Sample URL.

  • The color scheme from the provided URL will be applied to the Treemap.

How to Edit Colors in Treemap:

  1. Copy the Treemap Color URL and paste it into a web browser.

  2. A color selection interface with 20 color tiles will appear.

  3. Click on each tile to edit the color as needed.

  4. Copy the updated Color URL and paste it into the Color URL Box in the Tree map section.

These enhancements provide greater flexibility in customizing the Tree map, improving data visualization, and refining user control over displayed information.

The Sorting and Ranking section is enabled for Tree map when a measure is added in the others section. For more details, to learn about sorting and ranking options.
