The Variance feature empowers users to enhance their calendar visualizations by adding variance cards. These cards dynamically display variance data using green or red indicators, depending on the variance value, providing a quick and intuitive way to analyze trends and deviations.

Steps to enable Variance in Calendar:

  1. Open the Format Pane in your visualization settings.

  2. Navigate to the Date Filter section.

  3. Locate and expand the dedicated Variance section.

  4. Configure and customize the desired variance type based on your requirements.

  5. Ensure your calendar mode is set to one of the supported modes: Month Range, Month, Week, or Year.

Variance Type and their Configuration:

The Variance section provides the following options to calculate and display variances:

  1. Period vs Previous Period

    • This compares the current period with the immediately preceding period. When

    • Steps to configure Period vs Previous Period

      • Open the Format Pane and expand the Date Filter section.

      • Navigate to the Variance section and select Calculation Type as Period vs Previous Period.

      • Choose the Variance Display Mode as either Diff Δ (absolute difference) or Diff Δ% (percentage difference).

      • The variance display mode will be indicated in the Week, Year, and Month selection panels of the Month Calendar.

      • For Month and Month Range calendar modes, only the red or green indication of variance will be shown.

  1. Period Over Period

    • This Compares this period to the same period in the previous year.

    • Steps to configure Period Over Period

      • Open the Format Pane and expand the Date Filter section.

      • Go to the Variance section and select Calculation Type as Period over Period.

      • Choose the Variance Display Mode as either Diff Δ (absolute difference) or Diff Δ% (percentage difference).

      • The variance display mode will be indicated in the Week, Year, and Month selection panels of the Month Calendar.

      • For Month and Month Range calendar modes, only the red or green indication of variance will be shown.

  1. Between Measures

    • This Compares two different measures and calculate the variance between them. Example: Compare Actual Revenue vs. Budgeted Revenue.

    • To configure this option:

      • Add two measures in the Others field. This will automatically configure and enable the Variance section in the Format Pane.

      • Go to the Date Filter and expand the Variance section.

      • Select Calculation Type as Between Measures.

      • Choose the Variance Display Mode as either Diff Δ (absolute difference) or Diff Δ% (percentage difference).

      • The variance display mode will be indicated in the Week, Year, and Month selection panels of the Month Calendar.

      • For Month and Month Range calendar modes, only the red or green indication of variance will be shown.
