Last updated 5 months ago

The summary tables in Analytics+ enable you to view and edit the underlying data right from within the visual, without having to open the dataset. You can even re-order the rows, change category names, or add calculated rows on the fly - the changes are instantly reflected in your report. Let's see how!

The dataset will not be impacted by changes made from the summary table. The data changes will only be visible from inside the visual.

1. Switching to the summary table view

Click the icon at the top of the visual to view the summary table.

Report viewers can also access the summary table if permission is granted from the Allowed user controls window.

2. Re-ordering data

You can drag the rows in the summary table to re-order the data. The charts will immediately reflect the change. Let's use the summary table to move the Central category to the end of the chart.

3. Editing row categories

You can modify the row categories in your report by double-clicking and keying in the new category name. We have modified the 'East' region to 'Southwest".

4. Inserting calculated rows

With Analytics+ you can create calculated rows and seamlessly insert new categories at the visual level without modifying the underlying dataset. You can use the row gripper in summary tables to insert calculated rows. You can refer to row categories and use arithmetic operations in the formula editor.

Notice how the calculated row is immediately reflected when we switch back to chart mode.

5. Excluding row categories from calculations

You can use the Skip row option to display a category in the chart but exclude it from calculations. In the example, the average value is 192.9. After skipping the Central row, the average value is updated to 170.4, but the Central category is still displayed.

Use the Skip and Hide row to hide the category in the chart and exclude it from calculations. The row is hidden in the summary table as well.

Select the Reset skip & Hide rows option from the row gripper to display hidden rows again.

6. Disabling nulls

You can choose whether to render null values in your charts or mask them. Select the Enable suppress null option from the row gripper.

Navigate to the Number tab in the display settings for advanced null handling options.

When nulls are suppressed, observe how the Depreciation account is removed from the summary table and not rendered in the chart either.

7. Changing the date format

You can choose from the recommended date formats when you have a date dimension in your axis. Double-click the date dimension category to change the format.

8. Invert rows

You can flip the sign on an entire row by selecting the Invert row option.

To switch back to chart/card mode, you can click the icon again or click the symbol at the top right corner of the summary table.
