# 13. Data selection

Analytics+ offers you multiple data selection features to emphasize specific data points:&#x20;

* **Single click action**: Highlight any particular data point by clicking on it.
* **Lasso**: You can use drag selection to analyze a specific range of information, such as the profits generated over the last quarter of the year. &#x20;
* **Reverse lasso**: Similar to the lasso feature, you can use drag selection to exclude a certain range of data from your analysis. For example, exclude the months with the maximum revenue and focus on the months with low performance.&#x20;
* **Legend-based:** Use this option to emphasize the data for a specific category. Click on the relevant category in the legend to highlight it.
* **Sync highlight**: Analytics+ visuals can talk to each other - if you have multiple Analytics+ visuals on the same page, data selections in one visual will be reflected in the others as well.
* **Zoom:** Drag and select any section of a chart to zoom in. Zooming can be horizontal, vertical, or in both directions.
* **Drilldown for hierarchical charts:** Choose to enable cross-highlighting in other visuals, focus solely on drilldown, or combine both.
* **Data selection for trellis:** Select row or column dimension categories to highlight data in other Analytics+ visuals on the same page.

#### 1. Single click action:&#x20;

In the area chart, when we select the July data point for <mark style="color:green;">2022 Actuals</mark>, notice the effect on the rest of the data points and measures.

<figure><img src="/files/MKvLkkraUFpCTmAukXJM" alt=""><figcaption><p>Single click on an area chart</p></figcaption></figure>

#### 2. Lasso:&#x20;

We've used lasso selection to drag and highlight the data for May, June, and July. Notice how the data labels are displayed only when the data point has been selected.

<figure><img src="/files/ljGQZ1sPd4j2iFZGCg1J" alt=""><figcaption><p>Lasso selection</p></figcaption></figure>

#### 3. Reverse lasso

We've used reverse lasso selection in this case, to highlight the data excluding the April - July range.

<figure><img src="/files/ac20Ytj0RQMOkt8aR6Pl" alt=""><figcaption><p>Reverse lasso</p></figcaption></figure>

#### 4.Legend-based

We can highlight a particular category - in this case, we've clicked on the 'Mineral Water' category in the legend to highlight it in all the trellis panels.

<figure><img src="/files/hvSMPu24qyrdL7Vp3wEJ" alt=""><figcaption><p>Legend based selection</p></figcaption></figure>

You can also include and exclude data categories with legend-based selection. Navigate to Legend settings > Data selection to set the type of selection.

<figure><img src="/files/a3fsD6sYGR3pXZCD7Wv1" alt=""><figcaption><p>Include/Exclude option in Legend setting</p></figcaption></figure>

When you choose the **Include** option, Analytics+ plots only the selected data categories. The reverse happens when you choose **Exclude**. To exclude multiple categories, ctrl + click the categories.

#### 5. Sync highlight

When we use the sync highlight option - the data points selected in one Analytics+ visual will be mirrored in other Analytics+ visuals and small multiple panels in the same visual. Notice how the June data point selection has been reflected in all the cards.

<figure><img src="/files/yXvLtHA4Ww3SxJtRf9cw" alt=""><figcaption><p>Sync highlight</p></figcaption></figure>

Analytics+ supports cross-highlighting in other visuals when you select parent or child nodes in visuals with hierarchical axis data. This is supported irrespective of whether category grouping is enabled or disabled.

#### 6. Zoom

#### 7. Drildown and selection for hierarchical charts

Your analytics and visuals can work together seamlessly. The new *Drilldown Type* option for hierarchical charts like Treemap and Sunburst gives you greater control over how users interact with your reports—choose to enable cross-highlighting in other visuals, focus solely on drilldown, or combine both.

The animations show how each drilldown type works.

**Selection**:

**Drilldown**:

**Selection + Drilldown:**

#### 8. Data selection for trellis/small multiples

Selecting the trellis categories in rows or columns will automatically cross-highlight data in other visuals on the same page.
