# Radar/Polar Charts

## Chart setup to build a radar or polar chart:

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

#### **Axis**

Drag the dimension to plot on the circular axis (e.g., Category).
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### **Values parameter**&#x20;

Drag multiple measures to compare (e.g., Las Vegas, New York).
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### **Chart type**

Select Radar/Polar from the Chart Type dropdown menu.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

> In a radar chart, each category (like Categories) is shown as an axis starting from the center. The values for each measure (such as Las Vegas and New York) are plotted along these axes and connected to form a shape. This shape helps you quickly compare and understand patterns across categories.

## **Customization & formatting under canvas settings**

Use canvas settings to control the look and behavior of your chart. It contains two tab - General and Radar.

### 1.1. Series Type

Go to **Settings > Canvas > Series Type** to choose how your data is displayed. Use the dropdown to select one of the following styles:

* Line
* Spline
* Area
* Area Spline
* Column

{% hint style="info" %}
This setting applies the same style to all measures. To apply different styles to each measure (e.g., show Actuals as a line and Plan as an area), enable the **Individual Series Type** toggle.
{% endhint %}

<figure><img src="https://3132984990-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FbOoZhPvC57Z0CNgep4Ib%2Fuploads%2FTUW8Y1yHeVFk05pOUcBk%2FUntitled%20Project.gif?alt=media&#x26;token=2681ced4-28ec-43ec-9875-ce3d02f012c9" alt=""><figcaption><p>Series Type</p></figcaption></figure>

You can also adjust the opacity to control the transparency of the series, making overlapping areas easier to see.

<figure><img src="https://3132984990-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FbOoZhPvC57Z0CNgep4Ib%2Fuploads%2F87fvbk9k4Lwdy3Azgsvg%2FDoc-Radar-02.png?alt=media&#x26;token=8a6337ea-e3fd-4b8d-a52a-6333d1d45100" alt=""><figcaption><p>30% Opacity</p></figcaption></figure>

{% hint style="success" %}
Opacity property is only available for area and area spline series type.
{% endhint %}

### 1.2. Individual Series Type

When plotting **multiple measures**, you can assign a different visual style to each one—such as **line**, **area**, or **column**—to help distinguish them more easily.

For example:

* **2024 Actuals** is shown as a **line**
* **2024 Plan** is displayed as a **column**
* **2023 Actuals Enhc** uses an **area spline**

> To enable this, turn on the **Individual Series Type** toggle in **Settings > Canvas**.

<figure><img src="https://3132984990-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FbOoZhPvC57Z0CNgep4Ib%2Fuploads%2FiQeqEKr1aADcNcrEpaNi%2Fimage.png?alt=media&#x26;token=d7ec6226-210e-42b8-bcdd-2c7e1f0b2b30" alt=""><figcaption><p>Individual series type</p></figcaption></figure>

### 1.3. Axis Only Mode

You can find this property under Settings > Canvas > Radar.  It allow you to show or hide axis gridline and display axis.&#x20;

<figure><img src="https://3132984990-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FbOoZhPvC57Z0CNgep4Ib%2Fuploads%2F7ba8TkSVHKYk2nWrfLEH%2Fimage.png?alt=media&#x26;token=fef08b48-efd6-4438-92d4-c5c09381810d" alt=""><figcaption><p>Axis only mode</p></figcaption></figure>

### 1.4. Chart Type

Switch between the chart type using this property:

* **Radar**: has a linear grid shape. Ideal for discrete categories.
* **Polar**: has a circular grid shape and convert axis into 360 degree. Ideal for angular data.

<div><figure><img src="https://3132984990-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FbOoZhPvC57Z0CNgep4Ib%2Fuploads%2F1rFqswZywlR1zS0NO5V5%2FDoc-Radar-04.png?alt=media&#x26;token=d9b401d0-199b-4b41-9f39-08586f49c176" alt=""><figcaption><p>Polar chart</p></figcaption></figure> <figure><img src="https://3132984990-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FbOoZhPvC57Z0CNgep4Ib%2Fuploads%2FK60wXuzbdUrfybzr3jYz%2FDoc-Radar-03.png?alt=media&#x26;token=d83a486f-3e91-4462-a845-cf52ae1b6f59" alt=""><figcaption><p>Radar chart</p></figcaption></figure></div>

### 1.5. Grid Shape

Choose how the chart grid is displayed:

* **Circular** – Creates smooth, rounded gridlines.
* **Linear (Polygonal)** – Forms straight-edged gridlines connecting the axes.

> 📌 Use this setting to match the chart’s visual style to your reporting needs or design preferences.
