Inforiver Reporting Matrix July 2025 - v3.3.8
We're rolling out a fresh set of features in Inforiver Reporting Matrix - focused on making data analysis and collaboration in Power BI intuitive, accessible, and highly customizable. When your reports span teams, regions, or systems across the globe, time consistency is critical. We’ve introduced support for UTC timestamps to ensure that your data is aligned across time zones.
We’ve added a range of options to provide more granular control over feature availability in reading view, to tailor your reports exports exactly the way you need, and to adapt report formatting to suit your business context.
Explore our new range of features that make Inforiver Reporting Matrix the most sought-after platform for financial reporting in Power BI.
1. Conditional formatting
1.1. Conditional formatting for inline charts
Highlight patterns and outliers in your data by applying conditional formatting rules to row-level charts. In this example, pin charts are dynamically colored blue when sales exceed 4 million.

2. Sorting
We’ve upgraded the Inforiver Sorting algorithm to provide Excel-like nested sorting. Sort your data based on multiple dimensions or measures. Please bear in mind that you can either sort based on row dimensions or based on measures, not both together.

3. Export
3.1. Display total when hierarchy is collapsed
When the split option is enabled for row subtotals and the hierarchy is collapsed in the Excel export, subtotal rows appear blank, which may give the impression that the data was not exported correctly.

Enable the Repeat Totals (With Expand/Collapse) option from Excel Export Settings to display row subtotals in the extract.

3.2. Display dimension categories in stepped layout exports
Stepped layouts are widely used in financial reporting. You can choose to repeat the dimension category for each row in the Excel extract by enabling the Repeat Label checkbox in Excel export settings.

The images show Excel exports of the same report with Repeat Labels enabled and disabled.

3.3. Custom page size for PDF exports
Exporting high-quality, formatted PDF reports is just the beginning with Inforiver Reporting Matrix — you can also tailor the page size to match the unique structure of your data.
Navigate to Page Setup in the Export tab and select the Custom option from the Page size dropdown. You can enter the custom width and height required for your reports.

The images below show the same report extracted with different page size settings.

4. Display settings
4.1. Customize the total rows displayed in the status bar
When working with Inforiver Reporting Matrix reports, have you ever wondered how many rows you're really looking at? Customize the total rows displayed in the status bar with the Total Rows Display option - choose to display either the total number of rows in your report or just the ones currently visible on your screen. It’s particularly helpful when using tools like KPI Explorer or working with ragged hierarchies, where what you see might not be the full picture.
Select Underlying Data to view the total number of rows in your report
Select Visual Rows to view the number of rows currently rendered on the screen

4.2. Retain custom measure formatting when semantic formatting is enabled
If your measures contain custom formatting elements like units, currencies, percentages, or placeholder symbols, we have good news! You can apply semantic formatting colors while preserving the original formatting.
Enable the Apply Measure Formatting toggle to use custom measure formats with semantic formatting.

Semantic formatting symbols like +, -, or () will not be applied; only positive and negative colors will be applied.
4.3. Null suppression for multiple measures
Rows with null values for most columns can reduce the accuracy and quality of your reports. The Ignore Measure in Null Suppression option allows you to choose measures that are not relevant for analysis - if only these measures have values and all the other measures are null, the row will not be displayed.
Notice how the rows highlighted in yellow are suppressed when the 'EOD Position' and 'Shares Outstanding' measures are selected from the null suppression dropdown.

4.4. Minimum width for inline charts
Inforiver Reporting Matrix comes packaged with a wide range of inline charts, enabling you to visualize your numbers and effortlessly uncover outliers and trends. Universal scaling is applied to inline charts, which can lead to excessive scrolling when multiple measures are present in your report.
Enable the new Chart in minimum column width option to render inline charts with minimum column width and individual scaling (scaling based on individual measures instead of report-level).

4.5. Custom title for subtotals in outline layout
With Inforiver Matrix, you can customize the title for the subtotal rows in two ways:
By adding the parent row dimension category as a suffix or prefix
Customizing the 'Totals' text
These options are now available in the Outline layout as well.

5. Data formatting
5.1. Add subscript and superscript to text
Subscripts and superscripts are commonly used for categorization and references - for example, add the product line or model to a product category. They help users distinguish similar-looking values with different meanings.
Highlight the text that you need to convert, then use the floating menu to apply subscript or superscript formatting.
To use this feature, the Enable canvas rendering option must be turned off in Display settings.

Text that is converted to a subscript or superscript will be retained in Excel exports.

5.2. Format painter for column dimensions
Quickly replicate the formatting applied to one column/measure across all the columns in your reports with the new format painter option. Select the column and choose Apply Format to Level from the dropdown.
Column dimensions must be assigned to the visual to use this feature.

6. Formulas and functions
6.1. New scripting functions for KPI Explorer, Filter, TopN
Use variables and on-load and on-data-change scripts to open interfaces such as Top N, Manage Columns, or Filters. This allows users to access search and KPI Explorer functionality without relying on the toolbar.
Call the functions in the scripting tab or inside button variables:

In this sample report, the toolbar has been disabled. We've used the new functions in variables to access TopN, Filter, Search, and Manage Columns. When the Quantity measure is removed, the on data load script is triggered to open the Manage Columns window. When we switch between report pages, the on-load scripts are triggered, and the KPI Explorer and Search bar are enabled.

7. Variables
7.1. Support for UTC time zones in variables
When data is generated or consumed across multiple time zones, UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) is widely used in reports to ensure global alignment. Create a variable of type 'Advanced' to refer to a specific timezone.

Insert the variable in the header or footer to display the UTC timestamp.

7.2. Source multi and single select options from dimensions
Single select and multi select variables are primarily applied in reports to dynamically filter data. Instead of manually keying in the dimension categories, you can now directly source them by selecting the dimension.
Choose the Dataset option and select the appropriate dimension from the dropdown to source values.

The country names in the multi-select variable are directly sourced from the dimension.

7.3. Variables panel in the header
Users can configure variables through the default Variables panel. If you'd prefer not to use report data space for the panel, you can now insert all defined variables directly into the report header. Simply select the "Variables" option from the Insert Element dropdown within the header container.

7.4. Button color customizations for toggle scripts
You can define separate scripts to run when a button variable is enabled or disabled. In the latest version, you can customize the button background and font colors in both states.

Notice how the button color is blue:

8. Allowed user controls
8.1. Export Excel settings
Report author(s) have additional control over whether a user can modify export settings for Excel extracts. We've added a new Show Excel Export Settings option in Allowed User Controls - uncheck this option to disable the Export Settings option in reading view and restrict users from modifying export settings.

8.2. Pagination in reading view
A new setting has been introduced in Allowed User Controls that allows you to enable or disable pagination for reading view.

8.3. Hierarchy expand collapse in reading view
Users in reading view can use the row gripper to navigate hierarchies and insert rows/skip rows, and hide rows. Enable the Show Expand Collapse Only option to limit users to expanding and collapsing hierarchies. The row manipulation options will not be available in the gripper when this option is enabled.

8.4. Toolbar customization in reading view
You can restrict report users from modifying toolbar configurations(Full/Minimal/Minimal With Tabs/Unpin) while in reading view. The dropdown() will be disabled in reading view when the Configure Toolbar Settings toggle is turned off in Allowed User Controls.

8.5. Reset header order in reading view
Analyzing reports can involve reordering measures to group related measures together or for easy side-by-side comparisons without scrolling. Enable the Reset Header Order toggle in Allowed user controls for users in reading view to restore columns to the original order.

9. Other enhancements
Users in reading view will now have the ability to adjust font style and size for improved readability.
Users who have purchased the scheduler add-on for Reporting Matrix can choose the hierarchy layouts for Excel reports. The hierarchy can be fully expanded, can include expand/collapse buttons, or the current state of the hierarchy in the report will be extracted.

To revert any manual row height adjustments, select the Reset Row Height option to restore the original height for all rows.

Export tab > Export Excel > Header Settings has been renamed to Export Settings.
Rounding logic has been enhanced for improved precision. For example, rounding 145.67 to one decimal place now correctly returns 145.7 instead of 145.6 as in earlier versions.
